Reading Tips

  • Keep a lot of reading material around. Have books or "books on tape" in the car.

  • Help your child determine if a book is right for him or her.

  • Let your child revisit old favorites.

  • Don't discourage your child from reading books that are "too easy."

  • Let your child know that dropping a book once in awhile is okay.

  • Read the first chapter for your child.

  • Let your child see you read. Talk about what you are reading.

  • Value books. Buy books at yard sales. Swap books with friends. Give books as gifts.
