students.
Create
a community of utmost respect. Share the IALAC

recess." Your most conscientious students
will worry most.
Focus
on one type of learning at a time (not spelling
and handwriting).
Model
the value of mistakes. Focus on student learning
not on products.
Help students with closure. Break activities down
into small steps. Set a timer if necessary.
Allow
students to choose their own writing topics.
Avoid
having students copy from the board.
This
is not the time to introduce cursive writing.
Allow
students to work in pairs or alone.
Encourage
the play of board games.
Post
a schedule. Provide structure and repetition,
but keep things lively.
